  • Be Prepared
    • The most important step is preparedness. Consider keeping a copy of NAMI Austin’s Crisis Guide on hand to help guide you in the event of a psychiatric emergency.
  • Emergency Departments
    • If you or someone you know is a danger to themselves or others, please call 911 or go directly to the nearest Emergency Department.

  • Mobile Outreach Teams
    • These teams respond immediately on-site where a psychiatric crisis is occurring.

    • Local Hotlines – These services provide 24/7 access to licensed counselors, immediate assessments, crisis intervention services, and referral to community resources.

+Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) & Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP)

  • All Austin-area psychiatric hospitals offer IOP and PHP programs for all ages. Many of these include DBT-based skills training. Additional resources at outpatient facilities include:
    • Austin Center for Psychological Care
      • Services include DBT-based IOP groups for adults and adolescents, weekly DBT skills group, and CBT for insomnia, among other services.
    • The Ranch Achievement Program
      • This program serves children and adolescents ages 8-17. Two different levels of care are offered depending upon the intensity of services that are required.

+Psychotherapy

  • Therapy is not one size fits all; finding a good fit is important. Please speak with your provider to receive a referral to psychotherapy. In the event your insurance does not cover psychotherapy we can assist you in locating sliding scale-based clinics in the Austin area.
